This tour begins at the covered walkway that connects the Quonset to the studio house.
There are four doors, one at the south end connecting to the Quonset entrance, one on the north end connecting to the garage, one on the west exiting to the driveway and the other on the east exiting to the courtyard. Two windows are on the east/handrail wall. The walk is 45 feet to the entrance of the garage.
The garage is the width of the house (32') by 21' deep. It will hold two cars plus our Bobcat between the two. There are workbenches along the north wall and pegboard walls on two sides.
A door on the north side of the garage enters the house at the utility room. This room also has a door going outside to the north driveway. This room acts as an airlock to the north winds that come at us very strong from South Mountain. A pantry was put into the utility room to save space in the kitchen but is easily accessible from the kitchen door exiting the utility room.
The kitchen is entered from the utility room at the back of this picture.
The kitchen sink, disposal and refridgerator are on the south side. The counter tops are a composite granite. The cabinets above the sink extend to the ceiling with glass on both sides so you can see through to the dining/living room area.
Kitched stove on the north wall. The floor of the utility room, kitchen and bathroom is 1' square ceramic tile.
Opposite the kitchen is the dining area. A breakfast bar along the west wall is used for a microwave and toaster oven.
Looking southwest out the sliding glass doors to a small patio can be seen the exterior of the connecting walkway.
The living room area is part of the great room including the dining area. The ceilings are 9' tall and make this great room feel more spacious than standard 8' ceilings.
There are two bedrooms both about the same size. This is the north room. Note the window curtains. They are magnetically attached at the center and are lined with foil to prevent heat loss. Behind the curtains are small blinds to control the sun when the curtains are open.
This picture is taken from the north bedroom. The bathroom can also be accessed from the living room/kitchen area.
The bathroom shower is handicapped accessible allowing wheelchair access. All doors in this house are easy to navigate with a wheelchair. This picture was combined from two pictures so some distortion and discoloration can be seen.
The central heating and cooling unit is shown in this picture. The air conditioning compressor is outside on the north slab. It's nice and quiet. The thermostat for the heating and cooling system is 4 time of day programmable and can be voice activated. It talks the time, temperature and current setting. It is designed for the visually impaired. Because the Tech Block walls are so air tight a means of getting fresh air is needed without having to open and close windows. So imbedded within the heating/cooling ducts is a heat exchanger. This is timed to bring in fresh air winter or summer without a significant loss of heat or cool air.
